Dengjia Dao (Deng Family Knives) traces its origins to Chongqing in the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty (around 1800 AD), when the city thrived as a major commercial port on the upper Yangtze River. The Deng ancestors opened a blacksmith shop specializing in knives and scissors, earning a local reputation through exquisite forging and unique quenching techniques. During the Republic of China era (1912-1949), the third-generation heir Deng Yongfu improved the craft by introducing graded steel treatment, making the blades sharper and more wear-resistant, with products sold across Sichuan and Chongqing. After the founding of New China, Dengjia Dao was integrated into the Chongqing Hardware Factory, but traditional skills were preserved. Following the reform and opening-up, the Deng descendants revived the family business, registered the 'Dengjia Dao' trademark, and continued the combination of hand forging and mechanical processing. The brand culture reflects the resilience and precision of Chongqing's mountain city people, serving as a living heritage of Bayu traditional hardware craftsmanship.
