Hongguang Langhua
Time-Honored BrandHongguang Langhua · Zhejiang · Founded
A time-honored Zhejiang brand specializing in traditional soy products, Hongguang Langhua crafts tofu and dried tofu using age-old techniques, preserving the rich soy culture of Jiangnan.
Brand Story
Hongguang Langhua traces its roots to the bustling tofu workshops of Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties. According to local records, during the Qianlong era (1736-1795), workshops outside Hangzhou were already renowned for their stone-ground soy milk and brine-coagulated tofu, prized for its silky texture and rich flavor. In the early Republic period (1912-1949), the workshop incorporated techniques from Huizhou and Shaoxing, refining pressing and marinating processes to create a signature line of white dried tofu, spiced dried tofu, and fried tofu puffs, which were sold along the Grand Canal to Shanghai and Hangzhou. The name 'Hongguang Langhua' evokes 'auspicious light and surging bean blossoms,' symbolizing both the visual of boiling soy milk and the wish for prosperity. After 1956, the workshop merged into a local food factory, preserving its traditional methods. Around 2000, the brand was revived, insisting on non-GMO soybeans and ancient techniques like sour brine coagulation. Its products have earned provincial honors, embodying the spirit of 'a world within a bean' and serving as a living testament to Jiangnan's culinary heritage.
