Hongxing Xuan Paper is produced in Jingxian County, Anhui Province, a region renowned for Xuan paper since the Tang Dynasty. In 751 AD, Cao Dasan, the founding ancestor of the Cao family in Xiaoling, Jingxian, migrated here to escape war. He discovered that the local blue sandalwood bark and mountain springs were ideal for papermaking, so he settled and pioneered Xuan paper production. Through the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the Cao family passed down the craft from generation to generation, refining it to perfection. By the Qing Dynasty, Jingxian Xuan paper had gained national fame and became a tribute to the imperial court. The Hongxing brand originated from the Jingxian Xuan Paper Factory established in 1951, with the name 'Hongxing' symbolizing the red revolution and a bright future. The factory gathered master craftsmen from local papermaking families, systematically organized traditional techniques, and made Hongxing Xuan Paper the benchmark for modern Chinese calligraphy and painting paper. In 2006, Xuan paper making was inscribed in the first batch of China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
