Legend has it that during the Jiaqing reign (1796-1820), Li Jisheng, a renowned physician in Sichuan, opened a pharmacy in Chengdu with the motto 'Jishi Yansheng' (heal the world and nurture life), naming it Jishengtang. Li meticulously studied the Compendium of Materia Medica and Sichuan's authentic herbs, creating various pills, powders, ointments, and elixirs. His Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui (Agastache Qi-Regulating Liquid) and Chuanbei Pipa Gao (Fritillaria Loquat Syrup) became particularly famous. His son inherited the business, expanding it into a prominent local pharmacy. By the late Qing and early Republic era, Jishengtang had branches across Sichuan, embodying the medical wisdom of the Ba-Shu region. During the War of Resistance, it donated medicines to the front lines, demonstrating patriotic spirit. Despite ups and downs, Jishengtang has remained true to its original mission and continues to be a trusted time-honored brand.
