Brand Story
Lao Xie Jia Tea traces its roots to Huizhou (now Huangshan City), Anhui Province, with a history dating back to the Ming Dynasty. According to family records, the Xie ancestors began cultivating and processing tea in She County during the Wanli reign (1573-1620). By the Qianlong era (1736-1795), the Xie family had established a tea house on Tunxi Old Street, specializing in Huangshan Maofeng, which gained fame for its strict selection and exquisite craftsmanship. In the late Qing, Xie Zheng'an (1838-1910) refined the processing technique, creating a premium Huangshan Maofeng with sparrow-tongue-shaped leaves and downy tips, which was designated as a tribute tea. His son, Xie Hongchou (1875-1945), expanded the business to Shanghai, making Lao Xie Jia Tea a representative of Huizhou tea. In the mid-20th century, Xie Sishi (1955-) revived the ancestral enterprise, restoring traditional handcrafting methods and promoting Huangshan Maofeng's inclusion in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
