Longquan Sword traces its origins to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, when the legendary swordsmith Ou Yezi forged famous swords like 'Longyuan' and 'Tai'e' at the foot of Qinxi Mountain in Longquan, pioneering the art of Longquan sword making. During the Three Kingdoms period (220-280 AD), Longquan became a major production center for weapons. In the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), Longquan swords were listed as tributes to the imperial court. The Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) saw the flourishing of Longquan's sword industry, establishing the unique 'Longquan Sword' style. During the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911 AD), Longquan swords were sold both domestically and internationally as martial arts equipment and gifts. In modern times, the craft was preserved among the people, and in 1956, the Longquan Sword Factory was established to revive traditional techniques. In 2006, the forging technique of Longquan Sword was inscribed in the first batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
