Mayinglong was founded around 1582 during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty by Ma Jintang, a native of Dingzhou, Hebei, who opened a pharmacy in the capital to develop eye medicines. In the early Qing Dynasty, descendant Ma Yinglong inherited the family business, moved the pharmacy to Beijing, and named it after himself, establishing the Mayinglong brand. During the Tongzhi era, Ma Wanxing expanded southward, opening a branch in Wuhan and spreading the brand's influence across the Yangtze River basin. The eye medicine, known as 'Dingzhou Eye Medicine,' was crafted with a core 'Eight Treasures' formula, using carefully selected ingredients and meticulous preparation. In the Republican era, descendant Ma Qishan officially renamed the business 'Mayinglong Pharmaceutical Factory' and gradually developed anorectal products, forging a unique path of 'starting with eye medicine and thriving in anorectal care.' Carrying centuries of traditional Chinese medicine culture, Mayinglong's 'Eight Treasures' formula and manufacturing techniques are listed as national intangible cultural heritage, embodying the wisdom and legacy of traditional medicine.
