Brand Story

Founded in the late Qing Dynasty (around 1890) by Chef Cheng of Huizhou, Sijichun began as a humble eatery in Wuhu, Anhui. Chef Cheng, who had trained under imperial chefs, brought the essence of Huizhou cuisine to his hometown, emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients and authentic Huizhou cooking techniques. In the early Republic era, the second generation, Cheng Deshan, expanded the restaurant and introduced the banquet culture of Huizhou merchants, making it a gathering place for literati and business elites. During the war, the restaurant closed but was revived in 1946 by the third generation, Cheng Zhiyuan, who created signature dishes like 'Eight-Treasure Gourd Duck'. After 1956, it became state-owned, preserving its techniques. In the 2000s, the fourth generation, Cheng Jiahui, took over, restoring traditional recipes and integrating modern health concepts. Sijichun has witnessed the evolution of Huizhou cuisine over a century, with its emphasis on rich oil, color, and heat, and its philosophy of 'eating by the seasons', making it a vital carrier of Huizhou culinary culture.

“Fresh in every season, spring in every bite.”

Cultural Note

Sijichun adheres to the Huizhou culinary principles of 'heavy oil, heavy color, and heavy heat' and insists on 'not eating what is not in season', selecting ingredients according to the calendar. Its techniques are passed down through a master-apprentice system, with core skills like knife work, heat control, and broth preparation requiring years of practice. The brand values Huizhou dining etiquette, with banquets following strict dish order and seating arrangements, and preserves the traditional 'tang guan' (waiter) custom of announcing dishes.
