Tong Tai Yong, rooted in the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, traces its history back to the Qing Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795), Wang Tailai, a Shanxi herbal medicine merchant, opened a pharmacy in Guihua City (now Hohhot) and named it 'Tong Tai Yong', meaning 'sharing peace and sustaining benevolence'. At that time, Guihua was a frontier trading hub where Mongolian and Han medicine intermingled. Wang Tailai was adept at identifying herbs, often venturing into the grasslands to collect them and exchanging prescriptions with Mongolian doctors, blending Mongolian and Chinese medicine. Known for integrity and meticulous processing, Tong Tai Yong quickly gained fame. By the Guangxu era (1875-1908), it had become a renowned pharmacy, offering free medicine to the poor and earning deep trust. Tong Tai Yong witnessed the fusion of grassland medical cultures, and its philosophy of 'benevolence to heal the world' is still praised today.
