Brand Story

Dingxing originated in Sichuan, with a history dating back to the late Qing Dynasty (around the late 19th century). Founder Li Dingxing opened a small workshop in Chengdu, brewing soy sauce and vinegar. He insisted on using local premium soybeans and wheat, employing traditional sun-drying and dew-collecting methods. The resulting soy sauce, with its reddish-brown hue and rich aroma, won the hearts of local residents. After Li's passing, his son inherited the business and renamed the workshop 'Dingxing', symbolizing prosperity. During the Republic of China era (1912-1949), Dingxing products reached many parts of Sichuan, becoming a well-known condiment. After the founding of New China, Dingxing underwent public-private partnership, yet its traditional brewing techniques were preserved. Today, Dingxing continues to brew by hand, and its soy sauce and vinegar are highly esteemed in Sichuan, serving as an important symbol of local culinary culture.

Cultural Note

Dingxing's brewing follows the seasonal rhythm: making koji in spring, sun-drying sauce in summer, extracting soy sauce in autumn, and maturing vinegar in winter. The process relies on manual turning and avoids preservatives. Its soy sauce requires over a year of sun exposure, while the vinegar ages for three years, reflecting the Sichuan people's wisdom of living in harmony with nature.
