Seagull was born in 1955, during China's first Five-Year Plan (1953-1957). Tianjin, a northern industrial hub, was tasked with developing precision manufacturing. With support from the Ministry of Light Industry, the Tianjin Watch Factory (later renamed Tianjin Seagull Watch Group) was established, becoming one of China's earliest watchmakers. In its early days, workers overcame limited equipment and technical challenges, producing China's first crude movement watch in March 1955, filling a domestic gap. In 1966, the factory developed the 'Dongfeng' (East Wind) watch, China's first self-designed timepiece, marking a shift to independent innovation. Over the decades, Seagull introduced ultra-thin watches in the 1980s and advanced to tourbillon, perpetual calendar, and minute repeater complications, establishing itself as a leader in high-end Chinese watchmaking. Seagull not only met domestic demand but also exported overseas, symbolizing China's industrial modernization. The name 'Seagull' embodies freedom and resilience, reflecting the spirit of Chinese watchmakers striving for excellence and innovation.
