Brand Story

Hongxingtai traces its roots to Liaoning Province, with a history dating back to the Qing Dynasty (circa 1644 AD). Legend has it that the founder, surnamed Na, was a member of the Manchu Bordered Yellow Banner and served as a chef in the imperial kitchen of Shengjing (now Shenyang), mastering the essence of court cuisine. In the mid-Qing period (circa 1736), descendants of the Na family opened a food establishment named 'Hongxingtai' in Shengjing, symbolizing 'prosperous business and peaceful livelihood.' Using imperial secret recipes and exquisite skills, Hongxingtai quickly gained popularity among the people, especially for its Manchu specialties like Sachima and soy-marinated beef. In the late Qing and early Republic era, the third-generation heir Na Wenrui relocated the shop to Liaoyang, blending Han, Manchu, and Hui culinary traditions to create a unique flavor. Through wars and changing times, Hongxingtai has upheld traditional craftsmanship, becoming a vital symbol of Liaoning's food culture. Its techniques are listed as provincial intangible cultural heritage, serving as a living fossil for studying Manchu dietary culture.

Cultural Note

Hongxingtai's techniques blend Manchu imperial and folk culinary traditions. The production process strictly follows traditional steps, such as mastering the heat and sugar-pulling state for Sachima's syrup, and marinating, blanching, and soy-braising beef over several days. These methods preserve the unique flavors of Manchu cuisine and reflect the bold yet refined culinary aesthetics of northern ethnic groups.
