In 1820 (the 25th year of Emperor Jiaqing's reign), a craftsman surnamed Wang in Qingzhou Prefecture, Shandong, made a living by crafting handmade copperware. His exquisite skills earned him the reputation of 'Huayu Copper Workshop' among neighbors. The Wang family passed down the craft through generations, and by the late Qing and early Republic era, Huayu copperware was widely known. In the early Republic, Wang Dehou, a descendant, inherited the family business and opened 'Huayu Hao' in Jinan Prefecture, specializing in copper utensils and gradually expanding to iron and tinware. During the War of Resistance, Huayu supplied military goods to the Eighth Route Army. After the founding of New China, Huayu underwent public-private partnership, becoming a local state-owned enterprise, later restructured as Huayu Company. Huayu embodies the craftsmanship of the Qilu region, with products that are both practical and artistic, epitomizing Shandong's traditional handicraft industry.
