Jiannanchun originates from Mianzhu, Sichuan, where winemaking dates back to the Han Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, Mianzhu belonged to the Jiannan Circuit, and its fine liquor was designated as an imperial tribute, earning fame as 'Jiannan Shaochun.' In 760 AD, the poet Li Bai praised it, saying, 'Warriors exchange their gold sables for this wine, its value rivals that of Luoyang.' The Song Dynasty saw a flourishing of breweries in Mianzhu, and by the Ming and Qing dynasties, brewing techniques had evolved into a distinctive style. In 1951, several old workshops merged to form a state-owned distillery, later renamed Jiannanchun Distillery. Under the guidance of master brewers, Jiannanchun has preserved traditional methods while integrating modern technology, elevating its quality to become one of China's famous liquors. More than a beverage, Jiannanchun embodies the culture of Bashu, and its brewing technique is listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, reflecting the profound heritage of Chinese liquor culture.
