Kaorou Wan was founded in 1686 during the Qing Dynasty by a Hui Muslim named Wan. Starting as a street stall selling grilled beef near Xidan Archway, it grew into one of Beijing's most famous restaurants. In the Republican era, it was hailed as one of the 'Three Great Grilled Meat Restaurants' in Beijing, attracting celebrities like Mei Lanfang and Qi Baishi.
