Brand Story
Laolongkou Distillery, located in Shenyang, traces its roots back to the Qing Dynasty. In 1662 (the first year of Emperor Kangxi's reign), Shanxi merchant Meng Zifu founded a distillery called 'Yilongquan' in Shengjing (present-day Shenyang). After several name changes, it was finally named 'Laolongkou', meaning 'the mouth of the dragon vein', because the site was believed to be at the source of Shengjing's dragon vein and had sweet water. Laolongkou liquor is made from sorghum using traditional solid-state fermentation, developing a unique style known as 'strong aroma head, sauce aroma tail'. During the Qing Dynasty, it was presented as a tribute to the imperial court. In the Republic era, it was sold both domestically and abroad, becoming a famous liquor of the Northeast. After the founding of New China, the distillery underwent public-private partnership and continued to thrive. Laolongkou is not just a liquor; it is a part of Shenyang's urban memory, carrying the brewing culture and historical changes of the Northeast.
