During the late Qing and early Republic periods, Liyunge was counted among Shanghai's top fan and paper shops, alongside Jiuhuatang and Duoyunxuan, and its products were used by renowned Shanghai-school painters such as Wu Changshuo and Wang Yiting. In the Republican era, the shop relocated to Fuzhou Road, the city's cultural hub, becoming a gathering place for writers and artists. Liyunge's letter papers are crafted using traditional woodblock water-printing, featuring delicate patterns, while its fans are made from precious materials like sandalwood and mottled bamboo, with fan faces painted by famous artists.
