Brand Story
Meihua Pai originated in Kunming, Yunnan, around 1890 (the 16th year of Guangxu reign). A pastry master surnamed Mei established a workshop famous for flower cakes (hua bing) and Yunnan ham mooncakes (yun tui yue bing). The Mei family passed down the craft, and in 1912 (the first year of the Republic), Mei Chunhua expanded the business, setting up a front-shop-back-factory model and formalizing the 'Meihua' brand. During the War of Resistance, the family kept producing to support the rear. In 1956, under the public-private partnership policy, Meihua Pai was merged into a state-owned food factory, preserving its techniques. After the reform and opening-up, the brand was revived, though ownership changed hands several times. Today, it is held by a modern enterprise. Meihua Pai has witnessed a century of Yunnan pastry evolution, and its flower cake-making technique is listed as a municipal intangible cultural heritage.
