According to legend, during the Guangxu reign (1875-1908), the Wang family opened a distillery near Qianmen, naming it 'Renhe' to reflect the ideals of 'benevolence and harmony.' Using selected sorghum and wheat, they employed traditional solid-state fermentation to produce a mellow, crisp baijiu beloved by locals. During the Republic era (1912-1949), the third-generation heir Wang Deshan refined the technique by introducing the 'Lao Wu Zeng' method, enhancing quality and reputation. After 1949, the distillery underwent public-private partnership and became part of the Beijing Distillery, preserving its heritage. Renhe liquor has witnessed Beijing's transformation, and its craftsmanship carries the memory of Jingwei culture, serving as a vital artifact for studying Beijing's folk customs and commercial history.
