Shanghai Jinjiang Hotel was officially established on June 9, 1951, by Dong Zhujun, a pioneering entrepreneur. In the early years of the People's Republic of China, Dong had already made a name for herself with her Jinjiang Sichuan Restaurant and Jinjiang Tea House, renowned for their unique management and Sichuan cuisine. With the support of Shanghai's mayor Chen Yi, Dong merged the two establishments and relocated to the Huamao Apartment, founding the Jinjiang Hotel as the first state guesthouse of New China. Over the years, it has hosted Chinese leaders such as Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, as well as foreign dignitaries like Nixon and Kissinger, witnessing historic events including the negotiations of the Sino-American Shanghai Communiqué.
