Brand Story
Shaofenghe, a traditional Sichuan condiment brand, traces its origins to the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty (around the 1800s). According to local chronicles and family genealogies, founder Chen established a sauce garden in Chengdu Prefecture, producing soy sauce, vinegar, and chili bean paste. The Chen family upheld ancient methods, selecting premium local soybeans and wheat, making koji according to the seasons, and brewing under the sun and dew to achieve a rich, savory aroma. By the late Qing, Shaofenghe had gained renown, with products sold across the western Sichuan plain. During the Republic era, the fourth-generation heir Chen Shaofeng renamed the garden 'Shaofenghe,' symbolizing 'carrying on the ancestral craft, enriching people's livelihoods, and harmony bringing prosperity.' After 1949, Shaofenghe was integrated into a state-owned food factory, preserving its traditional techniques. Following reform and opening-up, descendants revived the family business and restored the time-honored brand. Shaofenghe is not just a brand but a living fossil of Sichuan culinary culture, reflecting the Bashu people's respect for and use of natural cycles, and carrying deep local memories and artisan spirit.
“Carrying on ancient craft, enriching the world with flavor.”

Cultural Note
Shaofenghe's brewing follows the seasonal rhythm: 'make koji in spring, sun the sauce in summer, extract oil in autumn, and mature the sauce in winter.' Using traditional clay vats and sun-and-dew exposure, it adds no artificial colors or preservatives. The craft emphasizes harmony between nature and humanity, leveraging natural microbial fermentation to create a unique flavor. This technique is a vital part of Sichuan cuisine's seasoning system and holds living value for studying Sichuan food culture and traditional brewing.
