Shedian Laojiu is produced in Shedian Town, Sheqi County, Henan Province, historically known as Sheqidian. He bought wine on credit at a local tavern and used the tavern's flag as his military banner, eventually founding his empire. In gratitude, he named the town 'Sheqidian' (Flag on Credit). During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Shedian flourished as a key hub on the 'Ten-Thousand-Mile Tea Route', thanks to its access to the Pan and Zhao rivers. Merchants gathered, and the wine trade thrived. Local breweries used sweet spring water, high-quality sorghum, and wheat, employing the traditional 'Lao Wuzheng' technique with long fermentation in mud pits. The resulting wine was mellow and beloved by travelers. Shedian Laojiu embodies the town's commercial legacy and imperial legends, serving as a living testament to Central Plains wine culture.
