Shuanggou liquor originates from Shuanggou Town, Sihong County, Jiangsu Province, where brewing history can be traced to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). By the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), brewing workshops were already documented. During the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911 AD), the town flourished due to convenient water and land transportation, earning a reputation for its aromatic spirits. According to the Sihong County Annals, during the Yongzheng reign (1723-1735 AD), dozens of brewing workshops operated in Shuanggou, with the Quande workshop being the most famous. Its 'Shuanggou Daqu' was renowned for its clear transparency, rich cellar aroma, sweet and crisp taste, and lingering finish. In the early 20th century, Shuanggou liquor won awards at the Nanyang Industrial Exposition (1910), enhancing its prestige. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Shuanggou Distillery was established in 1955, preserving traditional techniques while innovating, and it has become a representative brand of Jiangsu baijiu. The liquor culture of Shuanggou reflects the agricultural civilization and commercial traditions of the Huai River basin, with brewing skills passed down through generations, serving as a vital carrier of local culture.
