Brand Story
In 1892 (the 18th year of Guangxu's reign), patriotic overseas Chinese leader Zhang Bishi founded Changyu Winery in Yantai, Shandong, marking the beginning of industrialized wine production in China. After amassing wealth in Southeast Asia, Zhang invested 3 million taels of silver to introduce European grape varieties and winemaking equipment, and hired foreign winemakers. Despite hardships, the first bottle of wine was produced in 1896. In 1912, Dr. Sun Yat-sen praised its quality with the inscription 'Pin Zhong Li Quan' (meaning 'excellent quality like sweet spring'). In 1915, Changyu won a gold medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, gaining international fame. Changyu not only advanced China's wine industry but also blended Western techniques with local resources, exemplifying cultural exchange. Through a century of changes, Changyu has witnessed China's industrial evolution, and its spirit and winemaking culture endure to this day, making it a pride of Chinese national industry.
