The history of China Records can be traced back to the early 20th century. In 1908, a Frenchman founded Pathé Records in Shanghai, marking the beginning of China's record industry. In 1917, at the invitation of Sun Yat-sen, a Japanese entrepreneur established the Great China Record Factory, which later ceased operations but resumed in 1920, becoming the first Chinese-owned record company. In 1930, the Shanghai Pathé company built China's first recording studio, laying the technical foundation for record production. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the People's Record Factory was established in Beijing in 1950, later renamed China Record Factory, to unify national record publishing. In 1958, the China Record Society was formally established, marking an organized phase of development. China Records has witnessed the evolution of modern Chinese music, opera, and literature, preserving a vast archive of precious audio materials.
