Bawangsi's story begins in 1415 (Ming Yongle 13th year) when the Dafa Temple was built in Shengjing (now Shenyang). In 1638 (Qing Chongde 3rd year), Ajige, the 12th son of Nurhaci, renovated the temple. As Ajige was titled 'Prince Ying' and popularly called 'Bawang' (the Eighth Prince), the temple became known as Bawangsi. The temple housed an ancient well famed for its clear, sweet water. In the late Qing and early Republic, local merchants used this water to start a sauce garden and soda factory, producing soy sauce, pickles, and 'Bawangsi Soda'. Their unique flavors made them bestsellers across Northeast China. The Bawangsi brand thus endured, witnessing Shenyang's industrial growth. Its well and brewing techniques carry deep regional culture, epitomizing modern national industry.
