During the Tongzhi reign (1862-1874), Hu Kaiwen ink received imperial recognition and became a tribute item. The ink's lustrous black hue and enduring quality won the hearts of literati. Hu Kaiwen not only represents the zenith of Huizhou ink making but also carries forward traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy culture.
