Brand Story

Produced in Liulin Town, Fengxiang County, Shaanxi Province, Xifeng Liquor's brewing history can be traced back to the Yin-Shang period, over 3,000 years ago. As early as 139 BC, during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, the Qin people had already established a tradition of winemaking. In the Tang Dynasty, Fengxiang became the western prefecture, and its wine industry flourished, with Xifeng Liquor being presented as a tribute to the imperial court. During the Song Dynasty, the poet Su Shi, while serving as an official in Fengxiang, praised the excellence of Xifeng Liquor. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, the craft had matured, giving rise to the distinctive Fengxiang aromatic style. In 1952, at the first national liquor appraisal, Xifeng Liquor was named one of China's four most famous liquors, cementing its status in the world of Chinese baijiu. Made from local high-quality sorghum, with wheat and pea for the starter, and fermented in earthen pits and aged in wine seas (large woven containers), Xifeng Liquor achieves a flavor that is clear yet not thin, rich yet not flashy, sour yet not astringent, and sweet yet not cloying. Its brewing technique has been inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list, making it a vital representative of Shaanxi and Chinese liquor culture.

Cultural Note

Xifeng Liquor employs a unique process of fermentation in earthen pits and aging in wine seas (jiu hai), large containers woven from chaste twigs and lined with a mixture of blood and lime. This method allows the liquor to mature slowly, imparting a distinctive aroma. The Fengxiang aromatic style stands alone, blending the characteristics of light and strong aromas, and is a gem among Chinese baijiu flavor types.
