According to the Ningling County Gazetteer, Shang emperors established a 'Zhanggong' workshop here to brew sacrificial wines. In the early Western Han, Liu Bang (Emperor Gaozu) tasted the liquor and praised it highly, giving rise to the name 'Zhanggong liquor'. During the late Eastern Han, Cao Cao hosted banquets with Zhanggong liquor, spreading its fame. In the Tang and Song dynasties, it became a tribute to the imperial court and was celebrated by poets and scholars. During the Ming and Qing, numerous breweries lined the streets, creating the scene of 'fragrance for ten li'. Zhanggong liquor is not merely a beverage; it embodies the culture, rituals, and emotions of the Central Plains, carrying millennia of brewing wisdom and folk traditions.
