Time-Honored BrandZhengrong · Hebei · Founded
Zhengrong, a time-honored brand from Hebei, is renowned for its traditional brewing techniques, carrying the local culinary culture and memory.
Brand Story
Zhengrong traces its roots back to the mid-Qing Dynasty in Hebei. According to local records, during the Daoguang reign (1821-1850), a soy sauce workshop named Zhengrong was established, specializing in brewing soy sauce and vinegar. The founder, surnamed Li, improved local brewing methods by using premium soybeans and wheat, undergoing natural sun exposure and fermentation. The resulting soy sauce, with its reddish-brown hue and rich aroma, quickly gained popularity. By the Tongzhi reign (1862-1874), the workshop expanded, selling products to neighboring regions. During the Republic era, Zhengrong maintained traditional practices despite wartime hardships. After 1949, it was integrated into a state-owned enterprise, preserving its craft. Today, Zhengrong remains a symbol of Hebei's food culture, upholding ancient brewing techniques.

Cultural Note
Zhengrong's brewing follows the ancient principle of 'making koji in spring, sun-drying sauce in summer, and extracting oil in autumn,' emphasizing natural fermentation over a full year. The technique of 'triple summer sun-drying' uses high temperatures to mature the mash, creating a distinctive flavor. Zhengrong products reflect the evolution of Hebei's dietary customs and are traditional condiments on local tables.
